Adrian P. Broughton II

Director of Bands

Adrian P. Broughton II serves as the Director of Bands at Dothan High School, where he leads a dynamic and high-achieving music program rooted in excellence, discipline, and student growth. A proud graduate of Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida, Mr. Broughton began his collegiate studies at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before transferring to the University of North Alabama, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in instrumental music. He later earned a graduate degree in music education.

Since joining the Dothan City Schools system in 2010, Mr. Broughton has been a passionate educator and mentor, guiding countless students in their musical and personal development. His dedication to teaching and leadership was recognized in 2025 when he was named Dothan High School’s Teacher of the Year.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Mr. Broughton is an active writer, arranger, performer, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the Southeast United States. He is committed to building a band program that not only develops skilled musicians, but also confident, responsible young adults prepared for success beyond the classroom.

Tony Hawthorne

Assistant Director

Tony Hawthorne, Jr., a native of Dothan, is a 1998 graduate of Dothan High School. Mr. Hawthorne serves as the Band Director of Carver 9th Grade Academy and is an assistant director of “The Pride of the Wolfpack” Marching Band. Mr. Hawthorne received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Troy University where he served as graduate assistant for the “Sound of the South”. Mr. Hawthorne enjoys spending time with his family and playing his saxophone for the community and his church. Tony is married to Laura and is a girl dad to Lauryn, Camryn, and Alexandria.

Luke Taylor

Assistant Director

Luke Taylor is a graduate of the University of Montevallo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, and has taught at Dothan Prep since the Fall of 2023. Mr. Taylor teaches 7th and 8th grade beginner and intermediate band at DPA, and assists with the Pride of the Wolfpack Band. Prior to coming to Dothan, he resided in his hometown of West Blocton, AL. and finished up his degree interning at McAdory Middle School in McCalla, AL. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, and the Alabama Bandmasters Association. His primary instrument is the Tuba. Taylor currently lives in Dothan, and is sometimes jokingly referred to by his Co-Directors as the “Lord of the Highlands.”
